Tide Cycles and Sissiboo Café
Bear River is a village near the head of the tide, straddling the Bear River. If you’re a cyclist, it’s a steep, breathtaking coast into town on the winding Lansdowne Rd , 16 km from Digby (10 miles). You can also take the equally scenic, less steep but hilly River Rd in from Hwy 101. If you arrive on a Tues to Sat and need any tune up done to your bike, expect to find the Tide Cycles bicycle repair shop, open from 10 to 5. While you’re waiting, stop by Sissiboo Café for some fresh brewed, organic coffee. Bring a nap sac to carry a pound of your favorite roast. A great cup of coffee deserves a smooth ride home. Go Tandem. Sissiboo Cafe and Tide Cycles: the perfect Bear River combination.

Local Dog has famous father
Casey lives on the Chute Rd in Bear River with his loved ones, Brian and Lucy Muszkie. He not only has pedigree papers as Springville, Springer Spaniel, Casey the 4th but also claims a TV dad. His father, Chaps, did some fancy bird flushing on the Show, Canada In The Rough. His breed of dog is well known for their sniffability and are used in the security industry, tracking down every kind of illicit scent. His sniffing does go a little too far some times, possibly into the fetish zone, since socks and slippers are fair game, to be fondled, carried around and hidden. Not a dog to chew furniture or valuable car seats but he is known as a pro paper shredder and can remove the finger tips from expensive leather gloves as part of some strange security duty no one can figure out. Casey is a dog who only barks when there is any faint odor, slight sound or flick of light so you can imagine what his masters’ single complaint might be about this beautiful lucky dog. See Casey below in the lap of luxury, lounging in his favorite leather chair.

Events   Coming  Up
Digby County Exhibition
August  23 to 26 2017 in Bear River
Cows. Horses. Ox Pulls, and 4-H
Sorry, but the end of summer is just around the corner. The  good news is, it’s Exhibition time. The harnesses are being polished, animals groomed and 4-H ers dreaming about competition ribbons. Sleeping out in tents and trailers for a few nights of camaraderie with their friends is an end of summer ritual enjoyed by young and old. For some of us it’s all about the nostalgic odor of hay and cows; a restful lazy afternoon spent dawdling through the barns. Just to join the farm world for a day takes us back to a gentler time that struggles to exist amidst the towering realities of forest fires, nuclear weapons and super tankers, filled with crude oil, invading our Sacred Bay of Fundy. Thank God for the Digby County Exhibition and it’s four days of relief.  A display of rural life that comes out once a year to remind us of our heritage  and the values that can still make us strong in an often crazy world.

Jack Turnbull  Digby Professional

This mild mannered, relatively unobtrusive man has been walking your streets for decades. Don’t worry, he has his own healthy take on things for sure, but he does his work behind the scenes. His labours do come to light, sometimes in a very flashy way but without his name attached.  The outward display and moniker of all his work is its quality. I happen to own a couple of his pieces and they are two valued friends that I couldn’t survive without. He does have a loyal assistant. Her name is Debbie Mackin who  you might say is his opposite. Mild mannered but tres outgoing in such a friendly way. I’m sure her spirit influences all their work and adds the sparkle and flash to the end product. Many hundreds of people in the Digby area are happy to display his work daily. Just look around you…The next smile you see may be one of his. Jack Turnbull…Smile Creator.
